The Bonaparte First Nation IR2 Water System Improvements Project addresses
decades of water insecurity in Bonaparte First Nation, providing the community
with a safe, clean drinking water system after previously being on a boil water
advisory. The project features two solar-powered, containerized water treatment
plants strategically located within the community. The challenge for GHD was to
coordinate and design a sustainable, cost-effective system that ensured reliable
water access to residents. The resulting project eliminates water trucking, reduces
carbon emissions and incorporates a remote-control system, offering a scalable
solution for other remote and Indigenous communities facing similar challenges.
JUDGES’ COMMENTS
Navigating the complexities of the site and working to innovate
socially and environmentally efficient and effective outcomes led to
top ranking.
